Some weddings arrive with a sense of place already built in. For Katie and Douglas it was the live oaks: broad, low-limbed and older than anyone at the party, spreading over the lawn of a family home in Austin where the two of them would say their vows in October.
Crystal Moriarty of Todd Events planned and designed the weekend, and it unfolded the way the best Texas weekends do, slowly at first and then all at once. It began with a bridal luncheon set with peonies and fine linens, then a candlelit rehearsal dinner where the toasts ran long and nobody minded.
On Saturday the ceremony took place in the shade of those oaks, with family close on every side. Afterward we slipped away to the boxwood garden for portraits while the light was soft and gold, then rejoined guests under a garden tent for dinner and a reception that carried well into the night.
The evening closed with a petal send-off and an after-party for the people who weren't ready to go home. Peyton Frank Films was there alongside us capturing the motion of the day.
